 STUDENT AWARDS AND MERITS

The following awards are for 8th Grade Students only.

American Legion & Kiwanis - Each year the American Legion and Kiwanis Club give awards to outstanding graduates. The awards are based on honor, courage, scholarship, leadership and service.

Honor Cords - Each 8th grade student who has achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above, based on 7th and 8th grades, will be awarded a gold honor cord during the graduation ceremony.

Valedictorian/Salutatorian - The valedictorian/salutatorian will be chosen based on their cumulative GPA from all 4 quarters of 7th grade and the first three quarters of 8th grade.

Attendance – Special attendance awards will be given to students at graduation who display perfect attendance during their 8th grade year or for other outstanding attendance accomplishments throughout their schooling at Harrison.

The following awards are given to students in various grades.

Hurricane Awards - Assemblies to be held during the year to recognize student achievement and behavior. This award is given to students in PreK – 8th grades.

Principal's Recognition Awards - Certificates given by principal upon teacher
recommendation to recognize student achievement and behavior. This award is given to students in K – 8th grades.

S.T.A.R. Awards, Students,Towards Acting Responsible - This award is given to stars who demonstrate one of the six pillars of character education.

Grades 3-5 Quarterly Academic Awards

Gold Honors - Students earning all A's and O's will be recognized with this award. This includes physical education, music and art.

Blue Honors - Students earning all A's, B's, O's and S's (no grade lower than an S or B) will be recognized with this award. This includes physical education, music and art.

B.U.G. Award (Bringing Up Grades) - Students who have improved a letter grade in at least one subject without dropping a letter grade in any subject will be recognized with this award.

Grade 6-8 Quarterly Academic Awards

Gold Honors with seal - Students earning a 4.0 GPA will be recognized with this award.

Gold Honors - Students earning between a 3.5 and 3.9 GPA will be recognized with this award.

Blue Honors - Students earning between a 3.0 and 3.4 GPA will be recognized with this award.

Principal's "On-A-Roll' - Students improving their GPA and are above a 1.00 GPA will be recognized with this award.

All graded subjects count toward the 6th through 8th grade honor roll computation.

Grade Point Average A = 4.0 Grading Scale A = 100 - 92
B = 3.0 B= 91-82
C = 2.0 C= 81-72
D = 1.0 D= 71-62
I/N = 0  F= 61 - 0

 

 REPORT CARDS

PUPIL PROGRESS
Pupil report cards will be issued each quarter on these dates.
Quarter # 1 November 6th 2006
Quarter #2 January 29th 2007
Quarter #3 April 10th, 2007
Quarter #4 June 5nd 2007*
*June 6, 7, 8, 9, & 10 added days of student attendance in case school is canceled throughout the year from 1-5 days

 
PUPIL RETENTION
The school and home shall communicate regularly through the year prior to a retention decision. The District shall make all decisions regarding retention. Students will not be promoted for social reasons.
Academic standards at each grade level must be attained for promotion. A student should generally carry a 1.0 GPA to qualify for graduation and/or advancement to the next grade level.

Mandatory Summer School will also be required of those students not working up to District expectations.
