STATE MANDATED ATTENDANCE POLICY
Upon state directive, the following attendance regulations will have an impact on your child's attendance records:

A full day, half-day, or absence is determined by the state not the school. It is based upon the amount of instructional minutes that your child is in attendance. Therefore, even a tardy or an early release may be reflected as an absence per the state. Your child's attendance is reported with the state as well as maintained in their permanent record. Not only is your child's attendance vital for academic success, it also has a profound impact on our attendance reports which is the basis for the district's state aid claim.
We are asking that you be particularly diligent in seeing that your child attends school and arrives on time. If at all possible please schedule family vacations when school is not in session. We anticipate that all of our students will have a good year and we will do whatever we can to assure that they receive the best education possible.

 SCHOOL CLOSING

As a general rule, school will be closed only when Wonder Lake and/or McCullom Lake Road are closed, or in the view of the Administration, general weather conditions could be hazardous to the safety of the children. Announcements will be made on WMAQ, WGN, WAIT, WLS, WBBM, WCLR and US99 radio and WGN-TV and WFLD-TV.

Below you will find an alternate bus route for our South route. This alternate bus route will only be used in case of icy road conditions in the Wooded Shores subdivision.

South route: Bus will proceed as printed to Park Drive, then will proceed north on Park to Wooded Shores Drive, east on Wooded Shores Drive into Oakwood Shores subdivision, making all stops, then to Parker’s Highlands, making all stops and then to school.

Two buses available - On occasion, there are only two buses available, due to lack of drivers or buses. The Center bus route (Mrs. Dicker) is divided in 1/2 between the South and North routes. The portion of the Center route that is west of Wonder Lake Road (by bank & hardware) is added to the South route. The portion of the Center route that is east of Wonder Lake Road (fire station side) is added to the North route.

South Route - Will do all South stops as printed in handbook. The bus will then proceed north on Wonder Lake Drive, making all stops up to Wonder Lake Drive and Oak. Bus will pick up students east of the school on McCullom Lake Road. Bus will then proceed to school.

North Route - Will do all North stops as printed in handbook. Then will turn east on Salem, stopping at Salem & Osage, turn south on Osage and stop at Hiawatha, Seminole, Mohawk & Huron. Turn west on Huron to Wonder Lake Road. At Wonder Lake Road, the bus will head south, making any needed stops before proceeding to school.

A transportation section is found at the end of this booklet listing expected bus conduct and all bus routes. If you have a PreK or Kindergarten student, please see the A.M. go home/P.M. pick up route.

EARLY ARRIVAL
Students are NOT to be at school earlier than when the buses arrive. If the problem continues, parents will be called. Students are required to take their bus home at the scheduled time unless they are staying to work with a teacher. No student is to be in the gym without teacher supervision.

EARLY RELEASE
Students are not allowed to leave the school grounds without permission. If a student is to leave with a parent, the adult should report to the office and complete a form. Any student becoming ill or injured during the day should report to his/her teacher and, if necessary, come to the school office for first aid. Parents will be notified of an illness to determine any special needs. Medication may be given only in the Health Clerk's office area. All visitors report to the Front Office.

 ABSENCE REPORTING

Parents will be called and informed if children are not in school. We ask you to assist us by:

a. Calling the school on day of absence to report that a child won't attend. If possible, please respond by 9:00 A.M. Office hours are 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. daily.

b. Sending a note when the student returns explaining the reason for an absence. Only illness and emergency situations dictate school absence.

c. Regular school attendance is necessary for promotion to the next grade.

d. A student who is unable to attend classes because of a religious holiday shall be excused from any examination or any study or work assignments on such days. Make-up work will be allowed.
